A‘ea‘e is among the many Maui artists who were voted on to the final ballot for the 2023 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards. A‘ea‘e has four nominations: for EP of the Year, Hawaiian Single of the Year, Group of the Year, and Hawaiian Engineering. Only Natalie Ai Kamau‘u and Keauhou have more nominations, and our friend Kala‘e Camarillo also has four. A‘ea‘e members Keola Donaghy and Kenneth Makuakāne each also have one individual nomination - Donaghy for producing a Hawaiian Music Video featuring graduates of his Institute of Hawaiian Music program at UH Maui College, and Makuakāne for his Anthology release, Huliau. Congratulations to all nominees! Please follow this link to an article about our Maui nominees written by the Maui News’ Jon Woodhouse, who has been covering the Maui music scene for decades.
